Before we start, make sure you are using the Standard or Premium plan on Netflix. Baseline only supports standard definition. So, make sure you update if you are on it.

Then in your Chrome browser, go to Netflix and find the Netflix test pattern. This is a video that gives you an idea of ​​the resolution and original Netflix frame rate in real time. Play the video for a few seconds, you will see at the top right, the maximum resolution is 720p. You can additionally check the quality of the stream using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl-Shift-Alt-S.

If the bitrate is around 3000Kbps, it means 720p, and if the bitrate is ~ 4300 or 5800, it means 1080p video.

So let’s fix it. Install the Netflix 1080p extension (link below).

The extension works when you install it, however you may have to clear your browser cache first. Just click on the 3 vertical dots in the upper right corner of the Chrome window, choose More Tools> Clear Browsing Data.

Now refresh the video with the test pattern, change the stream quality by pressing Ctrl-Shift-Alt-S. And you should see an option to set the bitrate to 4300Kbps or 5800Kbps for 1080p.

So now you can play Netflix at 1080p. Some videos don’t support 1080p playback, but most videos do, so don’t worry about that.
