Can’t delete a reminder in Outlook 2007, 2010, 2013 or 2016? I recently had a very strange issue where I created a calendar event in Outlook with a reminder attached to it, the event passed, I dismissed the reminder, but it didn’t go away! The reminder popped up every time I opened Outlook.
Not only that, I deleted the calendar event thinking it would get rid of the reminder, but it didn’t! This way, the reminder is still alive even if there is no event for it! Strange!
Finally I figured out how to remove a reminder from a forum post and it’s pretty crazy what you need to do to remove Outlook reminder.
Delete Outlook reminders
Step 1. Download and install MFCMAPI (Microsoft Exchange Server MAPI Editor) from Stephen Griffin’s website. Unfortunately Microsoft is no longer offering it.
Step 2. Open the program, then click “Session” in the top menu and select “Login and display the repository table”.

Step 3: Select Outlook in the Select Profile dialog box. Click OK.
Step 4. Now double click the profile labeled “Mailbox” “Your name”
Step 5: a new window will appear. Expand “Root Mailbox” and find “Reminders”. If it’s not directly in the root directory, it might be in Finder. Then right-click it and select Open Table of Contents.
Step 6: Now look for the reminder that you cannot delete it and remove it here. The reminder must be identified by the From, To, and Subject fields.
Step 7: If for some reason you cannot find a recoverable reminder here, you can simply delete the entire reminders folder in the root directory. The reminders folder will be recreated when Outlook starts.
Please note that if you delete the Reminders folder, DO NOT select “Hard Delete” when the warning window appears. This is it! Now the reminder will no longer appear in Outlook and you will no longer receive those pesky pop-ups informing you that you missed the appointment! Enjoy!
