The Nintendo Switch Dock doesn’t actually have an Ethernet port. This does not mean that you cannot connect it. You will just need to buy one of the Nintendo network adapters to get the job done. You can then follow the steps in this article to get a wired internet connection using your Nintendo Switch.

Getting and Using a LAN Adapter

Instead of an Ethernet port, the switch has a USB port. This is what you will use to connect the Ethernet cable. First, buy a USB to LAN adapter. Many are available online, and Nintendo is actually releasing their own version specifically for use with the Switch. Also designed for Wii and Wii U, which you can also use if you have one.

If you have a USB to LAN adapter, follow these steps to use it with the switch:

Open the back panel of the Nintendo Switch Dock where the USB port is located. It must be between the AC adapter port and the HDMI port.

Insert the end of the USB LAN adapter into the Switch dock.

Connect the Ethernet cable to the other end of the LAN adapter.

Connect the Ethernet cable to your router, making sure it is secure.

Place the Nintendo Switch in the docking station.

Now you need to make sure your switch is connected to the internet. You should also be aware that you can only use a wired internet connection in TV mode as the cable only connects to the dock.

Setting Up Your Wired Connection

Turn on your Switch console and follow these instructions to set up a wired internet connection on your device:

Select System Preferences from the main menu, which looks like a gear icon at the bottom of the screen.

Go to Internet> Internet Settings. Wait while the switch searches for Wi-Fi.

When the option appears, select Wired Connection.

Select “Connect to the Internet with a wired connection.”

Wait until the switch connects to your Internet and completes the connectivity test. Then you are ready to use your wired internet connection.

The switch can also automatically detect the wired connection, in which case you can use the Internet immediately.

Nintendo Switch Dock with Ethernet Port

The good news about this new dock is that it will be available as a separate product from the Switch OLED model. This way, you don’t need to buy a new version of the console if you just want to have an updated dock.

Connecting an Ethernet Cable to Your Switch

Fortunately, even if you don’t plan on purchasing a new version of the docking station, the LAN adapter is quite inexpensive, usually around $ 30-40. This way, you can take advantage of all the benefits of a wired connection, such as a more stable and secure Internet connection and faster connection speeds.

This can help with games that you can play against other players on the network, such as Super Smash Bros. Ultimate or Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, where you need especially high speed. What are your favorite Switch games online? Let us know below.
