The product itself is good; we’ve used the school issued one before. But this particular calculator has been nothing but trouble! It came in a locked mode for testing with no instructions on how to use it. After several days of searching and efforts, I was able to download the needed software app from TI to update to the newest version, effectively resetting the calculator. But, now it continues to say the batteries need changing. I’ve put in brand new AAAs (4) and left it to charge in a wall port for 2 days (rechargeable in it, too). Although the icon indicates charging and appears full, after less than 30 minutes, low battery message is back. I can’t return it (my fault, for not realizing it was only a 30 day window and buying it 40 days before school started). I’m buying a brand new one soon, cause this is ridiculous! .
Seller somehow thinks new batteries or new keypad will fix all the problems. I thought it was me so I used all the tutorials to try and get it to function properly instead of giving me error messages. I thought I could get by with a used calculator but no. Maybe it’s the seller. I’m going to try to return it because I can’t wait for them to help especially since I have complained once already. I am in the middle of a Statistics class and must go purchase something that works. Amazon’s quality control has gone down! .
Gave this to my daughter for school, the serial number was rubbed off, no biggie. By the second day of class, she needed to have the software updated to match the rest of the class, most of which were using the same model. Hers was the only one that the teacher could not upgrade. I’ll take a stab at upgrading shortly and update this review if I have better luck.Thinking about exchanging it, but due to her classes, can’t afford to wait for a replacement to ship. I might try to return it for a refund (90 day warranty) after a I find a replacement. .
Teachers advised students to get the TI-84. When I was notified of that requirement, I researched the TI web site. Once there, I saw how limited the TI-84 was–I said not gonna happen. It took some time, but I was able to persuade the end user that it was not practical to buy the TI-84 now and then need to buy another/different handheld later. It helped that the site had information that the TI-Nspire clickpad also comes with the TI-84 keypadWhen the first unit arrived, the end user was extremely happy–To own the exact same handheld that is owned by the school. The TI-NSpire unit is being used with the TI-84 keypad.The end user of this product takes High School Honor’s classes and assist the math department by helping with the maintenance of the TI-NSpire handheld (that have the TI-84 keypad installed)–that includes updating the operating system from 1.3 or 1.4 to 1.7 then to 3.0.The first unit was remanufactured by the seller. The refund/return window had passed. I was fortunate in that the seller was a top rated seller and sent a prompt refund when we advised them that their unit was defective–unable to update the operating system.The replacement handheld was purchased from another top rated seller–however, this unit was remanufactured by the TI. It came with 1.6 Operating System and there was no problem updating to 1.7 then to 3.1. .
