In our case it was an HP Programmable RPN Scientific. They taught us to analyze and solve problems using a single tool through graduation.Now, I’ve chosen this TI-89 to invest the time in learning to accelerate my progress and cary me for years. . If you are reasearching like I did, this may help: My knowledge: I have the TI 89, I have only used TI calculators, and I used it primarly as a Mechanical Engineering student. It is the standard calc. This is the one that 90 percent of my class had. The rest had the 84 or and Inspire. The couple that had the Inspire said they liked it.You can program formulas, solve symbolic equations, you can do a lot. But the downside is it takes forever to program it manually, its like trying to write a text message with an old flip phone! Mind you I never did hook it up the a CPU with the USB cable. This has potential.For me it did the trick, and if you invest time into it, it will pay off give you that time back in savings on calculations. It is not the most intuitive and it is user interface is dated.I gave it 4 because I don’t personally know, from my experience, of a better calculator. . I’m a recent high-school graduate currently attending college. I have used a TI-84C all throughout high-school which was a fairly simple calculator to use. Even though it wasn’t necessary, I figured it was time to upgrade as college math was going to be harder. Although there was a bit of a learning curve, I feel that I have fully adjusted to this calculator.The product I received for the seller was used and had data from a previous user in it. This did not bother me, however. The only reason I took off a star was because it did not come with a usb cable. I had to go out and purchase my own.Overall, its a great deal for the price. I was lucky enough to purchase the product when it was super discounted, which made me very happy! . 5 stars to the unit, not the price. If you can’t get this on sale here, look somewhere else before you shell out the money. This is the standard graphing calculator and it’s all you will need from through high school and college. The Amazon brand batteries it came with didn’t last a full college semester either, so that was a bit interesting when I had my Stats Final, but luckily I always carry a back up calculator. The screen is a bit dark as well, but hey, it’s a calculator and it definitely calculates! . Didnt come with any cables, looked nothing like picture, had no cover and number were glitchy . Dont buy used ti 89 calculator from amazon and amzon seller .I have a lot of problem with screen and too many glitches .Cant use some of the function on the calculator.You get what you pay for. He’s owned a few of these now and he always wants the same one despite my trying to convince him to try one of the newest ones that was reviewed by a science publication. He says it’s easy to use and allowed in tests. My daughter tried others that were newer and ended up using this one again. I don’t have a clue how to use it but they’re both pretty much done with classes and have used these since high school so I guess that speaks for itself! . The YI89T is by far the best handheld for advanced technical work and very powerful for programming. This one is my backup. . Does not work !! powers up and then goes off and will not turn back on unless I put new batteries . Got it! It works perfectly. The screen is clear and has no issues, no lines or anything. Software works as it should as far as ive seen. Looks almost new except for minor scratches on the back of the cover but that is what it’s for and not a big deal. Came with 2 cables and a manual.
