Top Reviews My first calculator was the TI-86. I am quite fond of them, and I’ve owned two. But with each, the screen begins to fail. It starts with a row of pixels becoming intermittent. Then the contrast starts to get lousy, regardless of the age of the batteries. Soon in need another replacement, I wondered about the TI-85.I hoped that the 85 would share all the high points of the 86. It almost does. Essentially, it has the same functionality. I really like the chunky look and feel of the thing; it’s very sturdy, cold, and calculating. The layout is virtually identical to the TI-86’s. The keys feel good, and their response time is quick. Some of these modern scientific calculators are sluggish to respond to keystrokes; but not the 85/86.The disappointment is that the screen technology is clearly inferior. Take a good look at the pictures; the characters are blue, the background is teal. Needless to say, you need a lot of light on the screen to read it easily. The viewing angle is also rather narrow; it’s easy to get doubled images.Due to the inferior screen, it’s better to buy an 86. How can we get around these dying screens? . This calculator was in incredible shape, and worked as it should. Great deal for the money. . 1/5 price of new one and works great . I had this calculator in high school and loved it then. I’ve gotten used to the buttons, so I wanted another one. Glad to find it here in the jungle of Amazon. Works just as advertised! Read more
