1 – Texas Instruments TI-30X IIS 2-Line Scientific Calculator, Pink
Top Reviews Do you ever have problems with people recognizing that you’re female? Do people ever have the gall say that you’re a “reasonable” and “practical” person? Finally, are you tired of people mooching off you by asking to use your calculator? If this has happened to you or someone you love, buy this calculator in this obnoxious pink color immediately!rnrnNo one will be able to mistake you for anything but the pink-loving, somewhat basic girl that you are, and best of all, many, due to their masculinity complexes, will not want to use your calculator merely because of the bright color!rnrnBut in all seriousness, I bought this because someone stole my factory-color blue version. I bought this to be a little more distinctive so that maybe it won’t happen again.rnrnAs for the product, package came fast, all buttons work sharply — good feedback when pressed. I personally love this calculator — I can’t stand a casio. TI all the way. I can actually see what I’m taking the logarithm of instead of getting an error once I hit the log button. I would buy this a thousand times over (if I weren’t already broke of course)rnrnEnjoy! . As a chemist I use a programmable graphing calculator. However I also tutor high school and college students and have used TI 30 series calculators for that purpose for decades. This calculator is more than adequate for junior high school, high school and most college courses. In addition it is a bargin. Most standardized tests and teachers who allow calculators for tests allow the TI 30 series. It handles calculations found in all high school courses. It comes with a rudimentary instruction sheet and a quick reference card. TI used to package a comprehensive paperback book with this series. That manual is still available online in pdf format as a free download.rnrnThe package includes the calculator. It has an internal battery that can be replaced with some difficulty. Routinely the calculator relies on a solar cell which operates the device and charges the battery. Classroom light is sufficient to power the solar cell. There is a hard case that slides on to protect the face of the calculator. When not in use the cover can slide on the back for storage. There is a slot in the case to hold the quick reference card. There is also a basic information sheet in the package.rnrnFor those who worry about such things this is built in the Philippines. The TI 30 series has been one of the most popular entry level scientific calculators since the 1970s. . I purchased this TI for my Business Calculus class. We are required to have a scientific calculator that does not have graphic ability. What I have found about this calculator is that while it works well, there are some additional steps that have to be taken when doing complex calculations. Where on some calculators you don’t have bracket issues, this one, you have to really think out the steps otherwise the answer will come out incorrect. It does however serve its purpose. Once I figured out the bracket issues, it’s worked like a champ. I would recommend this calculator for those who need one for a math class, but I would invest in another version of the TI scientific calculator for more complex math class. . Our college CE department force all students to buy this type of calculator. It is not bad, but the reflection between two keys are too long. Thus, we can’t type the data quickly. It could be the good claculator for exam of middle school or lower. Not recommment for high school and above. I don’t know why my major department’s professors is so stupid to do that. Read more
2 – Texas Instruments BA II Plus Financial Calculator
Top Reviews Finance student here. It as been helpful in the classes that require the use of this specific calculator. It took a bit of getting used too just from a cash flows perspective, but all other functions are easy enough to learn, given that the professors were all familiar with the programming and were able to help students work though problems.rnJust rememberrn–For I/Y do NOT enter the function as a decimal. For example, if the interest rate is 8% enter it as 8, NOT .08.rn–For Cash flows make sure the press enter after every outflow and inflow. (enter outflows as a negative number)rn–Also for entering values, type in the number first and then press the button you want to apply the number to. For example, if you are finding the FV for some loan, and the PV is 1,000. Type 1000 first and then press PV. Then if there are annual payments for 5 years type 5 THEN press N etc Once you enter all your values, press FV and then press CPT to find the FV of the loan or whatever it is you are trying to calculate.rn– The only other thing I can think to say is if you are getting incorrect values, it is probably because the calculator automatically accounts for the TVM. (time value of money) So after every separate calculation make sure to CLR TVM. to do so press (2nd, FV.) which will reset the TVM.rnrnHopefully this will help you learn how to use it. Its a tremendous tool for anybody who knows how to use it. . I like the functions of this calculator, however the buttons are poorly made and when typing the numbers in quickly you can make a lot of errors. For some reason the buttons don’t always accept and you are left with missing numbers and wrong answers. I have to be very careful or redo the problem which wastes time. I wish my TI-83 had the financial functionality of the calculator because I like the buttons better. . This is a solid calculator. I am an accounting student and initially bought this. I then returned it and bought the BA II Plus Professional. The reason I returned this was due to the buttons. There is no way to “feel” when you have pressed a button. This was causing calculation errors frequently enough for me to reconsider my options. In the end I would recommend the BA II Plus Professional strictly due to the fact that you do not need to look at the calculator’s display during use, as you can feel if you’ve pressed 2 buttons accidentally when using the BA II Plus Professional. Inversely, with the BA II Plus I feel it is necessary to keep focused on the calculator when making calculations due to the lack of clicking noise/feeling when a button is pressed. I got annoyed with moving my head from the computer to calculator each time I had to input a number. . This is a great calculator for Finance/Business Majors and MBA candidates. It is sufficient for the majority of coursework an accounting/finance major would be taking, and it’s allowed on the CFA exam. Better yet, it doesn’t require RPN (Reverse Polish Notation yes, that’s what it’s actually called) which is unintuitive like many HP options use.rnrnThe one caveat: If you’re concentrating in finance and taking course work focused on fixed income or derivatives, you may prefer a scientific calculator like the ti30/ti34 or a graphing calculator. These courses can involve some simple but very tedious algebra so calculators with variables and multi-line displays can be helpful. Read more
3 – Texas Instruments TI-1795 SV Standard Function Calculator
Top Reviews There is nothing particularly fantastic or different about this calculator. It does what it should, has a good layout, and the “right” size to it.rnTHIS is the calculator I have used at work for 15 years, and have become so tuned to it’s size and layout that I fumble with ANY other calculator.rnFast forward 15 years and the one I used at work was smashed .and where we order supplies from, can no longer get this model. I fumbled with others for a few weeks, and decided to buy my own from Amazon .I’m back in my groove. LOLrnI saw a question asked about the model as to what size battery it takes .this strikes me as a question not worth asking. This calculator is solar power with battery for backup. My previous calculator (the one that was smashed) worked for 15 YEARS on the same battery. The cost of the battery is probably half the price of the calculator, and if you DID have to replace it every 15 years or so (I’m not convinced) .just treat yourself to a new one. . In use for just a week, it operates pretty much as expected. Still getting used to a slightly different arrangement of function keys from the 30-yr model that finally gave up. Good action to the keys, so far no input errors due to touch. Only “Con” that bugs me is that the display will not show the end “0” (as in $22.40) in a calculation result. It will appear as 22.4. Likewise, if you add (like) 11.50 plus 10.50, the result will be displayed as 22 (no zeros). There is no control button or switch to change this, so you just have to pay attention to where the decimal point is. One reviewer noted that this calculator tends to “skate” around on a smooth surface as keys are punched – a correct observation and due to only two small rubber feet at the underside front. I solved this annoyance by adding rear rubber “feet”, using 3/8″ rubber drawer bumpers with adhesive backs. . Great little calculator. It seems I have purchased so many different brands of these little calculators and never seem to work quite how I expect. The others also seem harder to use. I like how the keys feels on the little guys and how easy it is to use and store. It is solar powered which is nice and should last a really long time. It was not very expensive which is a plus! The numbers are large and easy to read. If I don’t turn this off, it automatically shuts off after a period of time. I don’t use all the functions that it is capable of, just the simple stuff. I do not think you will be disappointed with this if you purchase it. I am very happy with my purchase and I finally found a decent little calculator. . Purchased this brand calculator after contacting their C/S to see if the battery was replaceable without too much difficulty. Assured it would be easy to replace when the time came. Previous standard calculator (not this brand) when I unscrewed the back, the entire calculator fell apart — electronics, key pads falling out!rnrnThis calculator has a small door on the back with 1 screw to get at battery housing. This calculator will be used to balance the checkbook & do basic addition & subtraction. It will sit in a kitchen drawer with scissors, pens, pencils & markers. It’s large enough to not get lost in the drawer. A woman with a large tote would be able to easily find it in her handbag. It isn’t credit card sized. Read more ~~ best calculators ,
