1 – Texas Instruments TI-84 Plus CE Color Graphing Calculator, Bionic Blue
Top Reviews I’ve had this calculator for over 2 years now. It’s served me faithfully all that time, and software and programs work flawlessly. It does what it’s meant to do. No problem there. However, I’m ignoring the elephant in the room, the price. I bought the calculator for over $110 2 years ago, and the price hasn’t really changed since. A Barclays analyst estimated it cost TI between $15-$20 to manufacture a TI-84+, but it’s sold on Amazon for quadruple as much. Amazon itself sells a full-fledged tablet for fifty bucks, which often goes on sale for $40. The TI-84+CE comes with a 0.08 MP screen, a 15 MHz processor, 3 MB of storage, and 154 KB of memory. On the other hand, Amazon’s basic fire tablet has a 0.5 MP screen (6X more), a 1.3 GHz processor (85X more), 8 GB of storage (2500X more), and 1 GB of RAM (6000X more). The Fire Tablet also includes Bluetooth, WiFi, cameras and the like. All for less than half the price. By no means is the Amazon Fire Tablet the best tablet out there; it is just a cheap tablet made by a reputable brand whose specs leave the TI-84+CE miles behind. TI gets away with this highway robbery because its calculators are standardized, and classes are much easier to teach when all the students have the same (or similar) calculator. In that sense, TI has a monopoly on graphing calculators and gets to charge what it wants. So, in the end, my calculator works. However, I slashed two stars because I bought cheap tech that is way overpriced. Not worth the money at all, but I didn’t really have a choice. TI is the accepted brand. . Imagine my surprise when I found out that my old TI-83 didn’t have enough power to do everything I needed it to do for my next three math classes, College Algebra (math 114), Calculus for Business and Stats! After a lengthy conversation with my Math Professor, she recommended I pick up a TI-84 and if i was willing to pay a bit more get the color version. Man am I glad I did. This Calculator is so much fun. It’s like walking around with a mini computer in my pocket. I can put in my functions Ysub1 and Ysub2, Hit graph and whamo out comes this pretty graph, like the TI-83 it does handle a lot of numbers, you can set equations to zero and off you go running, however unlike the older version, you are not constrained with having to remember when to use or close parenthesis. I’ve run the same things through both calculators and was amazed when the older version basically had a heart attack when the TI-84 chugged through the answer.rnrnThis one is rechargeable, which means you need to plug it into the wall and top off the battery, it comes partially charged. Color changes are super easy with just a touch of a few buttons. Outside of that it does have a larger memory so upgrades are a breeze. I an unable to speak at this time as to the battery life as I just bought it this week and haven’t had to charge it but the one time.rnrnWhats in the package:rn1. I’m a business major so my math will end at Stats and Calculus for business. I really do like this new unit! . I’m disappointed with how this arrived. I’ve been really looking forward to using this calculator, but I’m gonna be returning it. It came with multiple scratches (they’re not that noticeable at first but you could definitely see it there) all over the calculator like described in other reviews.rnI also have to pay for the return shipping fee on my own. . I had a TI-84 in college. It was great. I ordered this calculator for my daughter for school and it arrived a day later than promised. When it was turned on the screen was white and blank. Thinking it needed to charge, I charged it for 24 hours. It is still white and blank. When it is plugged into the computer, it says that the OS is missing. I will be returning it. Read more
2 – Casio fx-9750GII Graphing Calculator, Blue
Top Reviews I bought this instead of a TI-84 for my computer science and statistics classes and am very pleased. Having used both the TI-84 and the Casio FX line extensively I would definitely say it’s worth it to save a couple bucks for books or dorm supplies and go with the Casio. It performs all the same functions for a much more budget friendly price. The menus seem a bit daunting if you haven’t used a Casio before, but once you get used to them they are really fluid. . Most of the criticism I see here boils down to one thing: it’s not a TI calculator. This particular model lacks natural/textbook entry, which may be an issue for some, but it has all the basics, and is faster than similar TI products. The screen resolution is fairly low, but it’s readable. It does the job, and the price is right. It took me about an evening to figure this thing out, but this is not my first calculator by a long shot.rnrnThe good:rn- fastrn- covers the basics.rn- runs a long time on 4 AAA batteries.rn- the calculator feels sturdy.rn- fairly easy to learn (in my opinion)rnrnNot so good:rn- low resolution screenrn- no internal flash memory to back up torn- it’s too easy to turn the calculator on, a recessed power switch would be nice. (The competition has the same problem)rn- no data transfer software for the Mac (the newer Casio Prizm models do not need any special software, you can drag and drop files)rnrnIf the budget will stretch that far you may want to take a look at the Casio FX-CG50. It has a higher resolution color screen, supports textbook entry, has more memory, it’s even faster and it works with a Mac.rnrnTI can get away with charging higher prices because they spent real money on teacher resources and training, and getting their calculators included in classroom materials. That does not make a TI calculator a better product, but if I had to buy a calculator for a student I’d have to think about deviating from the “standardâ€. . got this for my son but he had a hard time figuring it out. his teacher at school couldn’t help with his work because he didn’t know how to use a casio for the work. if the teacher uses or recommends an HP pay more for it. However I may have a slightly used casio for sale if you want. 🙂 . This calculator is essential for exams and the graphing functions is reliable. I am fond of the table that displays the coordinates of the graph in addition to the large display. All features are functional and that protective cover is convenient for protecting the screen and the USB connection enables the user to display what was entered on the calculator and the quality was decent for the price Read more

4 – CASIO FX-CG50 Graphic Calculator
Top Reviews I ordered the Casio Fx-Cg50 Graphic Calculator which is recommended and approved by A level and IB examination broad. However, I received another similar product, i.e. CASIO PRIZM FX-CG50 Color Graphing Calculator which, of course, is not approved by the examination broad. . nice product, delivery fast too . Great calculator. It takes a bit of time to learn, but this calculator can do almost anything you can think of. It outputs in decimal, fraction, and rational forms. There are nice built in calculus and linear algebra functions, and all for half the price of a comparable TI calculator. . The best purchase money can buy. Not only am I able to solve equations but I can also draw real graphs on it (not sure if I can draw with imaginary/ I don’t know how to). Examination mode is pretty helpful for exams – rather than constantly formatting the memories on most calculators. I mainly use the run-matrix and graph functions on the calculator; I have not quite tried the other functions. Not only does it have a sleek design but it also comes with many different functions including a catalog to search for specific needs not readily available by pressing shift or alpha. I’ll be doing my A levels this year (maths, further maths and physics) and this calculator is quintessential in quickly and accurately completing them. If you want to know more about it, I suggest you get one. 😉 Read more
5 – Casio Fx7400 Fx-7400gii Power Graphic Scientific Calculator High Resolution Display Screen Limited Edition 20kb RAM Turquoise Color Limited Edition.
Top Reviews Good product, accurate description and timely delivery. Excellent Customer Service. Thank you!!! . This is a really bad graphing calculator for your money. I ordered it to replace my “old”version of this same calculator and it turns out this is even more ancient. The screen is literally like one pixel and I can’t see anything . This is a good starter graphing calculator for the price. I picked it up for use in my calculus 2 course (integral calculus) and it has had all the functions I have needed in class. It is programmable, so as such, instructors might not allow it on tests check with your professor first!rnrnLike any unit of its type, it will take some time to get used to the menu hierarchy; and be aware that the manual is written for a group of graphing calculator models-so procedures described within the manual might be slightly different from how they are performed on this particular model.rnrnThat said, I like this model and would certainly recommend it to others. . If you want this to do matrix calculations don’t buy it! it doesn’t have the function. From the first moment some buttons stopped working! Read more

7 – Casio – 9750gii Graphing Calculator, 21-Digit LCD
Top Reviews The calculator is great for an awesome price, but the packaging was very annoying. It came with 6 plastic blue screws holding the front and back of the clamshell together. Looking up online, I could not find someone else with the same type of packaging so at first I wasn’t sure how to open it. I was able to do so eventually by prying off the screws in bits with a flathead screwdriver. Make sure you have one or other types of tools if you get this! . Buena me salio perfecta . Purchased this for my daughter in high school and she said “ it make math easier “ . Much cheaper than the alternatives, does the same job better. Read more
8 – Casio(R) FX-9750GPlus Graphing Calculator
Top Reviews I was recently in the market for a graphing calculator. I did quite a bit of research and was not at all pleased with the cost of most models. Then I found Casio FX-9750, and I did not hesitate one bit with the purchase. I like that this model does just about everything the TI-80x family does. It did not come with the computer interface cable, but that was not an option I was considering anyway. I wanted something portable that could do the typical math functions one would find in high level math courses, and more advanced features not common in a scientific calculator. For example, matrix calculations are handy for 2 and 3 variable equations, which are common in most math problems. Anything higher should be done on a computer anyway. The seller was prompt in fulfilling the order, and I will look them up again if I need to purchase a similar calculator. . My daughter borrowed the same product from a friend; she said it was so easy to use compared to others used at school and even one that was much more expensive which she had tried out. We also like that it brought a case where I had to purchase a case for the other one she had. . I am a math teacher at a new private Bronx high school, and compared the TI-83 with the Casio in numerous regards before deciding which one our school would use. Hands down, the Casio wins, and it is cheaper as well. Note – I do not work for Casio or TI.rnA) The calculator is more user friendly. The options are menu driven in a more intuitive way. What took me a minute or two to locate and figure out out the TI, took
less than half the time on the Casio. Don’t trust me- see for yourself.rnB) The Casio is slightly faster than the TIrnC)Features: The casio adds a dynamic graphing system (lets you change a coefficient and watch the graph change), which is very useful when teaching. I also like the EQUA feature, which lets my students calculate 2/3 equations, 2/3 unknowns, and solve quadratic or polynomial equations. Maybe the TI does this too, but I couln’t figure it out.rnD) The color thing I suppose is nice, but I use the CFX-9750, which is black and white and cheaper.rnrnThe only downside is that most colleges use the TI’s, unfortunately. I liken it to most places using Microsoft when there are better alternatives out there (monopoly power). Anyway, a student who uses the Casio can do anything the TI-83 can do.rnI’m a big fan, and my students seem to like it. . This calculator did not work. I was skeptical about purchasing a refurbished item, but decided to take a chance. Very disappointed. Read more
9 – Casio FX-9860GII SD Power Graphic Calculator
Top Reviews Didn’t get the SD model the I ordered but its not worth the aggravation to return it since it’s the same one – just doesn’t have the SD card slot .i would return it if I hadn’t gotten a discounted price on it. Moe Larry and Curly work in the shipping department .Fx-9860GII – SD (would you like extra fries with that order ? Soitainly ! . Didn’t get the SD model with memory expansion as ordered but calculator performs well. Extensive table, statistics, n simple graphing capabilities at a fraction of the TI price. Improved over the fx7820 . Solves complex matrices. Enough said. . Good product, accurate description and timely delivery. Excellent Customer Service. Thank you!!! Read more ~~ best calculators ,
