The latest iPhones and iPads come with really large and crystal clear screens so you can easily view your content and objects on them. However, there are still a few cases where these large screens are not large enough to project your content.

These are usually times when you want to mirror your iPhone or iPad’s screen to an audience of, say, 10 people. Even if these people gather around your device, they still won’t be able to view your content.

This is where screen mirroring for your iPhone or iPad comes to the rescue. This is a feature of your iOS device that allows you to display your iPhone or iPad’s screen on a large TV, computer monitor, or laptop. No physical hardware is required to use it, and the following guide shows you how.

Screen mirroring of iPhone / iPad screen to your computer

Mirroring the screen of your iOS device to a Windows PC or Mac is so easy that you don’t even need a cable to connect your device to your computer. If you can connect to a Wi-Fi network, you are ready to perform screen mirroring on your devices.

AirPlay allows you to mirror the screen of your iOS device to your Windows PC, Mac, or any other compatible device. This feature was originally created to help you mirror your devices to Apple TV, but with the advent of new software, it is now possible to convert your existing computer to an AirPlay receiver.

You basically use the AirPlay option on your iOS device to send screen content to an AirPlay receiver, which in this case is your Windows PC or Mac.

Since Windows and Mac do not support AirPlay by default, you will need to install the app on your computer to add support for screen mirroring.

There are several apps on the market to help you do this, and we’re going to use one of those apps called LonelyScreen. It is available for both Windows and Mac platforms and is fairly easy to set up and use.

Make sure your iOS device and computer are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Otherwise, you will need to connect them to the same Wi-Fi network, otherwise you will not be able to find your computer in the list of devices on your iPhone or iPad.

Go to the LonelyScreen website, download and install the app on your computer. Launch the app when it’s installed.

When the app launches, you will see a black screen with a red button. You really don’t need to configure anything for the application to work. It installed everything in the background for you.

However, if you really want to make changes, you can do so in the recipient’s name. It uses LonelyScreen by default, but you can change it to your liking and then it will appear on your iOS device.

Open Control Center on your iPhone or iPad. On iPhone, you can do this by swiping up from the bottom of the screen. On newer iPad models, you will need to swipe down from the top right corner.

When the Control Center opens, you will find AirPlay Mirroring. Click on it.

Now you can display any photos, videos, websites, applications, games, etc. from your device to your computer.

When you’re done playing with this feature, you can turn it off. Open Control Center on your iOS device and tap LonelyScreen. Then select Disable AirPlay Mirroring to disable this feature.

LonelyScreen is just one of many apps that let you use AirPlay on incompatible devices. If for some reason that doesn’t work, you have several other alternatives like X-Mirage.

Mirroring iOS device to Mac using cable

If you are experiencing any lag on your wireless connection, or if you don’t want to install an app to mirror your iPhone or iPad to your computer, you can use one of the built-in apps on your Mac to accomplish this task.

The app you intend to use is QuickTime Player and you have probably used it to play multimedia content already. But it can also be used to mirror phone screens. This is how you do it.

Connect your iPhone or iPad to your Mac with a compatible cable.

Click Launchpad on your Mac, find and click QuickTime Player to launch the application.

When the application launches, click the File menu at the top and select New Movie Recording. You are not going to record any movie, but the function you need is here.

QuickTime Player will start showing your iOS device’s screen on the Mac screen.

You will see all the content change in real time on your Mac. And if you want to record your screen, you can also do it with the same app. Just press the red record button to start recording your device’s screen.

When you are finished using this function, close the window and the screen mirroring will stop.

Conclusion

If you are uncomfortable sharing the content available on your device with someone, but you still want them to see it, screen mirroring is your best solution and can also be used for professional meetings.
