9 Little-Known Apple Music Tips you Need to Know.
Apple Music has a lot of competition in streaming music these days. Not least is YouTube Music, which actively matches Apple’s already mature music service. Apple Music has great streaming quality, is available for Android, and lets you share with the whole family.
It’s also pretty intuitive to use, but there are cool aspects and features of Apple Music that many people either ignore or are poorly advertised. So, if you are already a fan of Apple Music, here are some little-known Apple Music tips to help you get the most out of the service.
We’ll be using the iPadOS version of the app here, but the functionality is similar to the other iOS options.
Show lyrics
One of the things digital music has taken away from us is the artwork and artwork of our favorite albums. When you bought a new CD or vinyl album, you often received a booklet that contained the lyrics for each song along with the covers. Apple Music, at least, has brought back some of this magic in full-text form.
If possible, you can get a complete copy of the lyrics by clicking the three dots in the Now Playing window and then clicking View Full Lyrics.
Now you can finally avoid any of these awkward kiss-that-guy scenarios.

Or Use Karaoke Mode
It doesn’t end with the full text. Apple Music also has a handy karaoke feature for the current window.
These “synced†texts can be activated simply by touching the small speech bubble in the lower left corner of the Now Playing window. This will activate lyrics synced to the music and let you sing along!
“Basics”, “Next Steps” and “Deep Reductions” regulation pattern
Apple Music provides automatic music suggestions in the spirit of Spotify or Pandora. However, its real strength lies in the various human-made playlists that allow for constructive exploration of the artists’ discography.
Apple has specific naming conventions for these lists that will guide you through the artist’s work, from the most important songs everyone should hear (Essentials), to the essence of the work (Next Steps), and finally to all of these B-sides for true fans (Deep Cuts).
All you have to do is search for the artist name next to the correct keywords and the list should be right here for you. The perfect way to experience new music.
Album / Artist Shortcut
Apple Music doesn’t always communicate well when you can click on something to perform a useful function. The worst example of this is a shortcut to navigate from the current song to the album or artist page where it came from.
All you have to do is click on the artist name below the song title in the Now Playing window. A tooltip will appear and take you to the artist, album, or playlist page. Very useful if you want to listen to the entire album or quickly add it to your library.
Library Customization
This is another feature that Apple Music doesn’t make obvious, but you can customize the category types and order shown in the Library drop-down menu.
All you have to do is click on the little Edit button in the upper right corner of the Library dropdown menu. This will allow you to select additional categories, delete the ones you don’t need, and rearrange their menu order.
Turn on “next” versus “later”
When you press and hold a song while browsing the suggested music, a variety of options appear. Play Next is something that everyone probably knows and uses.
This makes sense, since obviously the song comes right after the music you are currently listening to. Instead of stopping a song and starting a new one right away.
Less intuitive is the Play Later option, which should actually be called Play Last. Since all it does is insert a new song into the bottom of the current playlist.
You’ve probably seen the Play Later button, but most people just ignore it. Knowing what it is actually doing shows how useful it is.
Reorder Playlist Songs
This one is super useful. Some of you may also be unaware that you can change the order in which songs are played in a playlist.
Yes, this includes ready-made playlists. All you have to do is drag the three horizontal lines to the right of the track entry up or down the list.
Direct “yours” suggestions negatively vote
Apple Music’s For You section displays a selection of music suggested based on your past preferences. You remember to vote for the songs you like, right?
At the very least, you should vote against the proposals in the section for you. You can actually do it right here – just press and hold any of the suggestion icons, and then click “Suggest less than this†in the pop-up menu.
Similarly, you can select the Love option to further customize the music suggested to you on this page.
Increase the sound quality on mobile data
By default, the Apple Music mobile app provides a lower quality audio stream when using mobile data. The idea, of course, is to save precious megabytes on your mobile data plan, but not everyone needs to worry about that.
If you have an unlimited data plan (or just have very large pockets), you can change the quality setting to provide a noticeably better level of quality on the go. Especially if you have very good headphones.
However, you won’t find this setting in the app itself. You need to open the Settings app, then go to Music and tap on Mobile Data. From here, you can turn the high quality streaming option on or off.
We recommend that you listen carefully to see if you notice a difference in your specific headphones. Some people won’t notice the difference and may simply save their data instead.
