7 Ways to Save an Image From Google Docs.
When you right-click on an image on a web page, you will find the option to download the image to your device. Many text editing tools also provide clear options or buttons for uploading images. Things work differently in Google Docs. Saving images from a Google Doc is such a dizzying task.
In this guide, we will show you how to save an image from Google Docs on mobile devices (Android and iOS) and computers. You will also learn how to extract multiple images from a document in one download.
Note. The screen shots in this guide were taken on a Mac computer. However, the methods and steps are the same on Windows devices.
1. How to Save Images From Google Doc on iPhone
All you need is the Google Docs app and the Notes app. Here’s how to do it:
Open the document in the Google Docs app. Touch and hold the image you want to save, release your finger, and select Copy.Open the Notes app and paste the image into a new or existing note. Press and hold an empty space in your note, then select Paste.
Tap the image, select the Share icon in the lower left corner, and select Save Image.
This will download the image to your iPhone or iPad and you will see it in the Photos app.
2. Save Google Docs Images on Android
Unlike iOS, you can’t (currently) save a single image from a document in the Google Docs app. You will need to upload all the images in the document to your device’s storage via Google Drive.
Open the Google Docs app, tap the menu icon on the document, and select Send a copy.Select the web page (.html, zipped) and press OK.
Select “Drive” from the “Share” menu to upload the zipped image file to your Google Drive account. Give the document a suitable name, select the Drive folder where you want to save the file, and click “Save.” li>
When the download is complete, locate the file in your Drive account, tap the menu icon, and select Upload.
Open the file in the Files app or any third party file manager and extract the images from the ZIP file.
You have successfully saved images to a Google Docs document on your Android device.
3. Save Images From Google Docs Using Google Keep
Google Keep is one of the many Google add-ons integrated into Google Docs. The add-on primarily allows users to embed Google Keep notes into a document and save excerpts from the document as a note.
Google Keep also provides a great workaround for saving images in a Google Docs document or presentation.
Open a document, right click on the image you want to save and select Save to save.
On the right sidebar, Google Docs will create a note file with the selected image as content.
Right-click the image and select “Save Image As”.
Give the image a file name and select Save.
Delete the image from your Google Keep notebook after saving the image to your computer.
Hover over the image in the Google Keep section and select the three-dot menu icon.
Select Delete to remove the image from Google Keep.
4. Extract All Images as a Web Page File
Want to upload all images to a Google Docs file at once? Saving the file as an HTML web page will help. The operation exports the document to a ZIP file with two elements: an HTML text file and a folder containing all the images in the document.
Open the Google Docs file, select “File” from the toolbar, select “Upload” and select “Web Page” (.html, archived).
Save the ZIP file on your computer and unzip it to extract the built-in folders. Open the (unzipped) folder and open the images folder to see all the images in the Google Docs file.
Note that the images in the folder are not in the order they appear in the Google Doc. Likewise, the images do not carry their original names. They are given a random image name and a number randomly generated by Google.
5. Save Google Docs Images Using Microsoft Word
Export the Google Docs file as a Word document and extract the images from the document to your computer.
Open the Google Docs file, select File from the toolbar, select Upload, and select Microsoft Word (.docx).
Save the Word document on your computer and open it with Microsoft Word when the download is complete. To save an image from the document, right-click on it and select Save as Image.
Rename the image file (if you wish) and choose a storage location. Microsoft Word also allows you to save images in various formats – PNG, JPEG, BMP or GIF. Select your preferred image format from the File Type drop-down menu and select Save.
To save all images in a document, choose File from the menu bar and choose Save As.
Open the File Format drop-down menu and select Web Page (.html).
Select a storage location and select Save. Navigate to the folder where the HTML file is saved and open the appropriately named folder.
You’ll find all the images in a Word document in the images folder, in the order they appear in the document, but with randomly generated filenames.
6. Use the “Publish to the Web†Trick
Google Docs has a feature that allows you to publish a copy of a Google Docs file as a lightweight web page. If you need to upload selected images from a document, use the Google Docs “Publish to Web” feature.
The trick is to create a web copy of the file and download the images from the file’s web page. Easy.
Open the Google Docs file, select File from the toolbar, and select Publish to Web.
Click the “Publish” button.
Select OK in the pop-up window.
Copy the web URL of the document and open the link in a new tab.
Right-click the image you want to save and select Save Image As or Save Image.
Rename the image (if you wish), select your preferred storage location on your computer, and click Save.
The good thing about this method is that it retains the original name of the image(s), so it’s easy to identify. It also saves you from having to rename images, especially if there are a lot of them in the document.
7. Third-Party Add-Ons
Image Extractor & Remover is a popular Google Docs add-on that allows users to save images from Google Docs. While convenient to use, app permissions are superfluous. This add-on requires access to your Google Drive files and personal information in your Google account.
You must also give it permission to view, edit, and delete Google Drive files. That’s way too much data/access for the functionality it offers. The exchange is not worth it.
But if you’re happy with those permissions, or feel like experimenting, here’s how to install the add-on.
Select Add-ons from the toolbar and select Get Add-ons.
Type image extractor in the search bar and select extractor and remove images in sentences.
Select an application to extract and delete images.
Select “Install” to add the tool to Google Docs. You have to check the permission of the add-on in the “Permissions” tab. Similarly, go to the “Reviews” section to see the experience of other users before installing the add-on.
Let’s Talk Image Quality
In our experiments, images uploaded using these methods retained the same size, size, and quality as the original image uploaded to a Google Doc. We loaded about 50 images into a document, re-downloaded them all and compared them with the original copies we uploaded.
There was no reduction in image quality or size on both mobile and desktop. However, it is worth noting that editing an image in Google Docs will affect the size and quality of the upload. For example, cropping an image will reduce its size and size.
Let’s leave you with one last trick for saving images from Google Docs. Download PDF document and extract images from PDF file. Welcome 😉.
