Subtitles aren’t just for the hearing impaired – they help people understand new languages ??as well as decipher difficult-to-understand dialogues. If you’re watching a movie on DVD or Blu-ray, you may have a subtitled track, but usually only in one or two languages ??(if any).
Fortunately, there are several websites available on the Internet where you can download subtitled tracks for movies, both popular and obscure. This allows you to watch movies in a completely different language than your own.
OpenSubtitles
OpenSubtitles is probably the first site you will want to try if you want to download subtitles.
It is a truly international site with over 50 different language options to choose from, allowing you to search the site in languages ??from Aragonese to Vietnamese.
Each upload is accompanied by the title of the movie, the date of upload, comments and an overall quality rating for the subtitles provided. Using the prominent search bar at the top, you can search for subtitles that have been downloaded by other users. The advanced search bar allows you to search by age, rating, format, etc.
However, the site has more than just movie subtitles. You can also download subtitles for TV shows, as well as participate in a community forum where users offer support and advice on finding the best subtitles.

Addic7ed
As you probably guessed from the name, Addic7ed (which means “junkie”) aims to be a one-stop shop that provides subtitling for movie buffs. Like OpenSubtitles, this is one of the subtitling sites where you can download both movies and TV shows.
You need to register on Addic7ed to be able to download subtitles. Once logged in, you can search for movies using the search bar or scroll through the drop-down menu. New releases are prominently displayed in the RSS feed at the top of the page.
The site also offers a timetable showing the next episodes of your favorite TV shows to stay organized (with appropriate subtitle links). It also offers answers to frequently asked questions and support forums where you can ask questions, as well as manual pages explaining how to use subtitles in common programs.
Like OpenSubtitles, Addic7ed is available in multiple languages, from Arabic to Swedish.
Podnapisi
While Podnapisi may sound like it serves an international market, this English-language movie subtitle site is one of the cleanest and easiest to use. The site has over 2 million subtitles for download, over 58,000 films and over 6,000 TV series available.
The subtitles are divided into clear sections: the main page displays a short list of the most recently uploaded subtitles, and the sections show the top rated, most downloaded and most commented downloads.
Like other major subtitling sites, Podnapisi allows you to search with an advanced search tool with options for keywords, years, language, etc. If you are experiencing difficulties, the active support forum allows you to ask questions and discuss the latest versions.
The community is currently trying to translate this site into other languages, from Afrikaans to Kos.
YIFY Subtitles
Named after the famous pirate group and their releases, YIFY Subtitles is another easy-to-use subtitle download site. Unlike some other major sites, YIFY Subtitles only offers movie subtitles for download.
Don’t let the pirate group link fool you – YIFY subtitles are safe and piracy free, offering multiple languages ??downloads. The first page contains a list of popular and recently released films, as well as categories divided by language.
If you want to find a specific movie, the search bar with an auto-input tool should help you, which allows you to find a specific episode as you type. The dedicated page for each movie offers information about the movie, including length, release date, and rating, with available subtitles listed below.
The site itself can be used for free, without registration. The site handles available subtitles – you cannot upload your own.
DIVX Subtitles
While the site looks and sounds like something from the early 2000s, DIVX Subtitles is still a useful resource for finding subtitles to download, especially for older releases. The site has been launched since at least 2002 (and before that by another owner).
Updates for DIVX subtitles continue to arrive, especially for major releases and non-English films. You can search the site by keyword, language, format, or rating, but you can also view recent uploads on the category page.
If you can’t find subtitles for an older movie or a movie in a foreign language, DIVX Subtitles may help you. Many of the subtitles available on the site are not written in English but in other languages.
This makes DIVX Subtitles a useful resource if you find it difficult to watch films in English (or want to improve your language skills).
Subscene
Subscene has been around since 2005 and offers subtitles in a variety of languages, including those specifically designed for the hearing impaired. The interface is simple, with a prominent search bar at the top and popular movies and forum posts listed on the first page.
It offers regular updates from users, with a registration page allowing you to submit your own subtitles. Subtitles are available for both movies and TV shows, as well as popular music videos.
If you have any problems with the site, you can write on the community forum. It has hundreds of discussions, with posts in different languages ??offering discussions and tutorials.
Each movie has a separate login page that lists information about the movie itself, such as the release year, with a list of subtitles sorted by user ratings and comments shown below.
Find best movie subtitles
These subtitle sites are helpful, but run by volunteers and in some cases have quite a lot of advertisements. Use your own judgment, but you may have to consider blocking ads on these sites to get the most out of them.
If you cannot find suitable subtitles for your movie, you can also consider creating subtitles for the video yourself.
