Having trouble showing your AirPods in the Find My app on your iPhone or Mac? Or do they show up as “Offline” or fail to communicate the exact location?

Technical limitations, misconfigured settings, outdated firmware, and more can cause your AirPods to not show up in Find My.

If you’ve already lost your AirPods, you only have a limited number of options to have them show up in the Find My app. Most of the troubleshooting and fixes below will focus on them.

Technical Limitations of AirPods and Find My

Before you begin, it’s a good idea to familiarize yourself with the technical limitations of finding AirPods with Find My. Unlike the iPhone, Apple Watch, or AirTags, it’s not always possible to track your wireless headphones or headset.

First and second generation AirPods will only share their location if they’re actively connected to another Apple device you’re using . its. Otherwise, you’ll only see where you last used them.AirPods Pro, AirPods Max, and 3rd generation AirPods will broadcast their current location via the Find My network using any iPhone, iPad, or Mac that is nearby. However, this feature requires firmware version 4A400 (more on that below).If your AirPods haven’t been paired with a device for more than 24 hours, they’ll show as Offline or Location Not Found in the Find My app “. 1. Quit & Reopen Find My App

If Find My can’t locate your AirPods, try updating the map.

On a Mac, simply exit and relaunch the application via the Dock. But on iPhone and iPad, you must first swipe up from the bottom of the screen to bring up the app switcher. Then swipe the Find Me card to force quit the app. Then relaunch Find My from the home screen.

2. Restart iPhone or Mac

Then try restarting your iPhone or Mac. This will usually resolve any connection issues that are causing Find My not to show your AirPods.

If you don’t know how to restart your iOS device, just open the Settings app, choose General > Shut Down, and drag the slider to the right. Then wait 30 seconds and hold the side button to reload it.

3. Check the Find My Server Status

If your AirPods are still not showing up in Find My, you should confirm that the issue is not the result of a server side glitch.

Just go to Apple’s system status page and make sure Find My (including related services like Apple ID and iCloud account and sign in) is up and running. If not, you must wait until Apple brings its servers online again.

4. Remove AirPods You No Longer Use

Do you see a pair of AirPods you no longer use in the Find My list? If removed, your current AirPods may appear.

To do this, tap or select the Devices tab, select AirPods, and tap or select Uninstall this device > Uninstall.

5. Use Find My on iCloud.com

Find My is also available as a web application. If the problem persists, use it and see if it changes.

Simply sign in to iCloud.com using your Apple ID on any desktop or mobile device (including Android or Windows), select Find My iPhone from the iCloud launcher, and select your AirPods from the All Devices list at the top of the screen.< /p>

If you manage to find one AirPod, be sure to put it in a charging case. Otherwise, you won’t see the location of the other AirPod.

But if you’re using AirPods Pro, AirPods Max, or 3rd generation AirPods, updating to firmware version 4A400 will allow any iPhone, iPad, or Mac to share its location over the Find My network.

1. Place your AirPods, AirPods Pro, or AirPods Max in the charging case or smart case.

2. Connect the case to the charger.

3. Keep them close to your iPhone.

4. Connect your iPhone to your Wi-Fi network.

5. Wait 30 minutes. In the meantime, your AirPods should have been updated.

9. Include AirPods in Find My Network

If you’re using AirPods 3, AirPods Pro, or AirPods Max with firmware 4A400 or later, we recommend that you double-check that they’re on the Find My network. You can do this with your iPhone.

1. Connect your AirPods to your iPhone.

2. Open the Settings app.

3. Tap Bluetooth and select the Info icon next to your AirPods.

4. Scroll down and turn on the switch next to Find a network.

10. Update the System Software

Running an outdated version of system software like iOS 10 or macOS Sierra can also lead to all sorts of issues with Find My. So try to apply any pending updates.

11. Unpair and Reconnect AirPods

Then try disconnecting and reconnecting your Apple AirPods to your iPhone or Mac. You can do this in the Bluetooth settings on your iOS or macOS device.

1. Place your AirPods in your charging case or smart case.

2. Go to “Settings” and select “Bluetooth”.

3. Tap the Info icon next to your AirPods.

4. Click “Forget this device”. Then tap “Forget Device” again to confirm.

5. Open the AirPods case or take the AirPods Max out of the smart case. Then follow the on-screen instructions to enter pairing mode and reconnect your AirPods to your iPhone.

1. Place your AirPods in your charging case or smart case.

2. Open the System Preferences app and select the Bluetooth icon. Or open the Bluetooth menu bar icon and select Bluetooth Settings.

3. Press the X button next to your AirPods.

4. Select Delete.

5. Open the AirPods case or take the AirPods Max out of the smart case. Then select “Connect” to reconnect your AirPods to your Mac.

12. Reset AirPods to Factory Defaults

Your next course of action involves resetting your AirPods. This will fix any broken configurations preventing your AirPods from showing up in Find My.

1. Place your AirPods in your charging case or smart case.

2. Remove your AirPods from the list of Bluetooth devices on iPhone (instructions above).

3. Press and hold the Setup button or the Digital Crown and Noise Control buttons until the Status LED flashes amber and then white.

4. Open the charging case or remove the AirPods Max from the Smart Case.

5. Reconnect your AirPods to your iPhone or Mac.
