Technical limitations, misconfigured settings, outdated firmware, and more can cause your AirPods to not show up in Find My.

If you’ve already lost your AirPods, you only have a limited number of options to have them show up in the Find My app. Most of the troubleshooting and fixes below will focus on them.

But if you want to increase your chances of getting your hands on Apple Wireless Headphones the next time you lose them, you can read to the end.

Technical Limitations of AirPods and Find My

Before you begin, it’s a good idea to familiarize yourself with the technical limitations of finding AirPods with Find My. Unlike the iPhone, Apple Watch, or AirTags, it’s not always possible to track your wireless headphones or headset.

First and second generation AirPods will only share their location if they’re actively connected to another Apple device you’re using . its. Otherwise, you’ll only see where you last used them.AirPods Pro, AirPods Max, and 3rd generation AirPods will broadcast their current location via the Find My network using any iPhone, iPad, or Mac that is nearby. 1. Quit & Reopen Find My App

If Find My can’t locate your AirPods, try updating the map.

On a Mac, simply exit and relaunch the application via the Dock. But on iPhone and iPad, you must first swipe up from the bottom of the screen to bring up the app switcher. Then swipe the Find Me card to force quit the app. Then relaunch Find My from the home screen.

2. Restart iPhone or Mac

Then try restarting your iPhone or Mac. This will usually resolve any connection issues that are causing Find My not to show your AirPods.

If you don’t know how to restart your iOS device, just open the Settings app, choose General > Shut Down, and drag the slider to the right. Then wait 30 seconds and hold the side button to reload it.

But if you’re using AirPods Pro, AirPods Max, or 3rd generation AirPods, updating to firmware version 4A400 will allow any iPhone, iPad, or Mac to share its location over the Find My network.

1. Place your AirPods, AirPods Pro, or AirPods Max in the charging case or smart case.

2. Connect the case to the charger.

3. Keep them close to your iPhone.

4. Connect your iPhone to your Wi-Fi network.

5. Wait 30 minutes. In the meantime, your AirPods should have been updated.

9. Include AirPods in Find My Network

If you’re using AirPods 3, AirPods Pro, or AirPods Max with firmware 4A400 or later, we recommend that you double-check that they’re on the Find My network. You can do this with your iPhone.

Your next course of action involves resetting your AirPods. This will fix any broken configurations preventing your AirPods from showing up in Find My.

1. Place your AirPods in your charging case or smart case.
